Tips for Passing the DMV Road Test
- Arm Signals: You will be asked to demonstrate and explain the three arm signals. Make sure you know what each signal means.
- Vehicle Equipment: You’ll need to identify the location of various vehicle features, such as the hazard lights, defrost, and horn.
- Driving Test: The road test will last approximately 10-15 minutes and include basic city driving, unprotected left turns, double lane changes, parking, and reversing.
- Familiarize Yourself with the Test Route: It’s beneficial to get to know the DMV test route ahead of time.
- Avoid Unsafe Lane Changes: The most common reason for automatic failure is an unsafe lane change. Ensure you follow these steps: signal, check mirrors, look over your shoulder to check the blind spot, and then proceed when it’s clear.
- Consider a DMV Review Lesson: Taking a review lesson a few days before your test can be helpful. We’ll assess your current driving skills, let you know if you’re ready for the test, and review the rating system, including common automatic failures.
