Requirements for obtaining driver’s license
under 18 years

  1. Have your parent’s permission
  2. Complete driver’s education in-class or online
  3. Pass written test at DMV.  Must be at least 15 1/2 yrs. old
  4. Schedule 6-hours of Driver’s Training with a Professional Driving School. Permit not valid until teen completes the first driving lesson with Driving School
  5. Complete 50 hours of supervised driving with someone 25 years or older who has a valid, CDL
  6. Pass the Road Test at DMV Must be at least 16 yrs. old. Must have held permit for at least 6 months

DMV Appointments

Appointments are not required for written tests.   Must have appointment for all road tests DMV.ca.gov

What to bring to DMV

Written test: birth verification, drivers education certificate with parent signature, licensing fee, 2 proof of residency documents,  DMV application confirmation number- complete application online, glasses or contacts if required for vision test.  Additional documents required for real ID.

Road test: learner’s permit with parent’s signature on page 2, driver’s education certificate, driver’s training certificate,  vehicle registration and insurance, glasses or contacts if required.  For more details visit  DMV.ca.gov
